The Office of ETD Formatting and Submissions, located on the first floor of Mitchell Memorial Library, reviews theses and dissertations for formatting compliance based on the standards required by Mississippi State University. Our review process begins after your committee has approved all content within your document.
Some style guides (APA, MLA, etc.), require specific formatting. Select a format for table titles and figure titles. The Guidelines for Preparing Theses and Dissertations have examples of several acceptable formats, but you must choose one and use it consistently. Learn to use the basic formatting features of your word processing software.
Any student following the Manuscript Option will still need to include ETD front matter following the Standard Formatting guidelines, chapter formatting for all non-publication-related chapters following the Standard Formatting guidelines, and a cumulative references section and appendix material (if applicable) following the Standard Formatting guidelines.
This version of the Guidelines for the Preparation of Theses, Specialist Projects, and Dissertations allows for flexibility in the choice of formatting styles used in this manual. Students are responsible for satisfying all requirements for the thesis or dissertation and the style guide that are particular to.

When using templates, be sure to read the Standards for Preparing Theses and Dissertations, as there may be format requirements for your work that are outside the scope of these templates.Also, be sure to read and follow the template instructions. Upload edited and formatted dissertation to the Graduate School via ProQuest. Make sure you see the MSU logo on the ProQuest site. Submission does not mean the dissertation is accepted. You will be emailed with any necessary revisions. You will need the following information: Full text of the dissertation in PDF format. This must be one file.
